RARE VINTAGE 1934 Doberman Pinscher Bronze Figurine Ch Carlo Von Bassewitz

This bronze figurine of Doberman Pinscher Ch. Carlo Von Bassewitz was struck in 1934. It was originally painted in the "Cold-Painted Bronze" method, matching the markings of Ch.

Bassewitz (Photo #12) was used to model the wax for the bronze. (The photo is in public domain).

I was given the figurine in the early 1980s by a woman who had inherited it from her parents. She said that the paint was intact until a few years before when a man asked to make a mold from it and she allowed it. A few months later the paint that had been intact for 45 years began to blister and flake off and eventually she took it to a restoration studio but the cost of restoring it was too much.

They removed the damaged paint and polished it for a nominal cost. Carlo was a rather famous Doberman Pinscher in that his owner was responsible for the dog-friendly hotels of today because of changing the policy of the Hotel Company of which he was President, Georgian Hotels.

Photo # 12 is on a 1/2 inch grid. Length is 5 1/4 inches from the right hind foot to the tip of the nose. Height from bottom of front paws to tips of ears is 4 1/4 inches. The figurine weighs in at 1 pound, 5 ounces - heavy for its size. The fine detailing on this figurine is exquisite. I have taken detailed closeup photos to show the fine detail of the modeling of the muscles and the chiseling around the face. I have taken closeups of the remaining paint, which resisted whatever damaged it. The loss of the paint has not diminished the fine artistry of the original sculpting.
